Welcome Home Addie

Addie is my family’s newest adventure! We don’t know her past, yet she has helped me heal after losing Emma, my first “kid”. Emma was my love for 16 years and was my emotional support, running companion, comedian, snuggle bug and my Best Friend. When we lost her, my heart had a HUGE hole in it and was truly broke. I cried off and on for weeks.

My boys understood what happened and loved Emma, yet my youngest recommended we “just get another dog” and it would be okay. I had to take some time and allow my heart to mend, but I finally came around and was willing to start looking for dogs listed for adoption. I recognized I would never have another Emma, but found myself trying to find a similar breed. One day, we found Nomae on PetFinder. The adoption agency, Waiting Under the Willow had listed her up for adoption. We filled out an application, agreed to meet her with plans of adoption. We met the foster mom at her work, a doggy day care. I went back into the boarding area where Nomae was being kept. She was terrified and wouldn’t let me get anywhere near her. Yall, I am a dog person! Dogs usually seek me out, so this was a rough reality. Seeing her and committing to take her was scary. Her foster mom put her in the car, because I couldn’t even get close enough to put a leash on her. As we drove off with a new family member, I was a bit worried but dedicated to loving her and giving her a better life.

Fast forward, 7 month and here we are. Nomae did not respond to me when I called her by that name. I started thinking about names and fell in love with Addie. The name represented all the “adventures” we were going to take her on as part of our family. She is now glued to me. I am her person. She loves our back yard, hunting anything that moves, going on walks/runs, camping and car rides. Addie has already lived up to her name and helped me continue to heal each day. I still miss Emma deeply, yet when I look at Addie and see how happy she is, it warms my heart to know she feels loved. Welcome to our family Addie, here’s to many more years to come!
